Abstract
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is defined as a framework describing successful teachers who have technological, pedagogical, and content competencies. Research on TPACK with regard to science and math education in particular has increased considerably in recent years; however, there is a lack of literature as to the studies on TPACK and foreign/second language education. TPACK and foreign/second language education is closely related since language teachers are expected to use their content and pedagogic knowledge to teach effectively. The other component of TPACK, technological knowledge, has also gained importance with the advent of information and communication technologies, but the question is whether this new component of TPACK is included in the curricula of English Language Teacher Education Programmes in Turkey. Our study aims at analysing TPACK based research in Turkey with regard to foreign language education. To this end, the curricula of English Language Teacher Education Programmes in Turkey were analysed and courses offered related to technology and language education were determined. The results of the research conducted in Turkey about the relations of TPACK and language education were also reviewed. In the conclusion part, some suggestions were made as to the current curricula of English Language Teacher Education Programmes in Turkey as well.
