Gerd Holweg is lecturer and coordinator at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in Vienna, Austria.

He has studied Technical Mathematics at the Technical University of Graz in Austria and was developer for Multimedia and Web Content for many years. At that time he came in contact with eLearning and pedagogical concepts that are important for his daily work today.

Gerd gives courses in the fields of webdevelopment, databases, information retrieval, big data, IT project management and the fundamentals of computer science. In research and project work, his field of activity is primarily in the areas of usability, accessibility, eLearning, information management and BigData.

Gerd is also teacher at the Hertha Firnberg Schools for Business and Tourism in Vienna, the institution the UAS Technikum Wien cooperates with concerning the topic this paper is about. He has experience in transmitting knowledge in computer science topics to pupils in the age between 14 and 19.

Other fields of interest include: Personal Learning Environments, Search Engines, Annotation Concepts, Semantic Technologies, Big Data Analytics, Knowledge Extraction and Processing of Unstructured Data and Machine Learning. In these areas, a larger list of master theses has been supervised in recent years.
