Sally Wagstaffe is a teaching fellow in French in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University (UK).

She completed her undergraduate degree and PhD in Durham and has taught in the French department since 1991; before joining the department, she worked on a number of research projects in Durham University’s School of Education.

Sally Wagstaffe teaches on modules in French language, linguistics, translation and interpreting at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and has professional qualifications in translation and public service interpreting.

As Deputy Director of the MA in Translation Studies at Durham University, she is responsible for maintaining the programme’s links with partner institutions in the EMT (European Masters in Translation) network and with work placement providers.

Her research interests lie in the areas of the pedagogy of language learning and the use of ICT, particularly for the development of translation and interpreting skills and employability skills.

She is currently working, with two colleagues in the department of French, on the third edition of Thinking French Translation: A course in translation method, to be published by Routledge in 2016.

She is also working, with colleagues in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, on a project - funded by one of the University's Enhancing the Student Learning Experience awards - to develop learning materials to support the use of web-based tools and resources in translation and interpreting modules.
