Mikhail Karyakin

Prof. Mikhail Karyakin, born in 1963, is currently working as a Director of the I.I.Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science at the Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
Mikhail’s research is mostly focused on mechanics of deformable solids, in particularly, mechanics of generalized continua, numerical analysis of nonlinear elasticity and shell theory problems, theory of Volterra dislocations, inverse problems. These investigations were supported by grants from Russian Foundation for Basics Research and from Russia Ministry of Science and Education. He is chair of the Organizing Committee of a series of more than 10 conferences on Mathematical Modeling and Biomechanics, member of the Program and Organizing Committees of some other International conferences on mechanics and mathematics.
At the same time he gives much prominence to the new technologies of teaching and to the application of IT tools in education. Ever since he was a novice teacher and his first project in this area was awarded by special prize of “Simulation & Gaming” journal he continues activities in the area of computer assisted learning as well as in designing new techniques for teaching informatics and programming to children. Nowadays the Children Computer School of the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science at Southern Federal University is the biggest in Russia.
As a professor he teaches courses on Programming Languages, Informatics, Continuum Mechanics, Computer Algebra, and Mathematical Modeling.
