Carla Ramsdell is a lecturer in the Physics and Astronomy Department at Appalachian State University. She is passionate about providing a clear dissemination of climate and energy scientific research to the general non-scientific public. Her BS is in physics from Stetson University and her MS is in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Florida. She worked in the power generation field with Siemens Westinghouse Power Generation as a thermodynamic engineer of power plant equipment for 12 years. She then worked for an HVAC engineering firm focused on energy efficient conditioning options for buildings. She has taught at Appalachian State University since 2008 and is committed to incorporate climate science into each of her courses to ensure students have the necessary scientific understanding of the climate challenges that will shape their future and empowering them to effect real change, regardless of their major. She has been involved in research and community outreach, which integrate energy efficient cooking with climate change. These lectures engage an audience who would not attend a lecture dedicated only to climate change or energy efficiency.
