New Perspectives in Science Education

Gebrekidan Tesfamariam has received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in chemistry from the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, in 1992. After serving as a secondary school teacher for four years (1993-1996) he joined Punjabi University, India, for further studies (1997-1998) and earned his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in inorganic chemistry in 1998. Then he joined Abiyi Addi college of teacher education, Ethiopia, as a chemistry teacher educator and worked there for four years (1999-2002) with the rank of a lecturer. After that he joined the Tigray Bureau of Education as a senior expert of chemistry and served for about two years (2003-2004). Since 2005 he has a permanent position at the Department of chemistry, Mekelle University,Ethiopia, with the ranks of a senior lecturer (2005-2011) and assistant professor (2011 to date). As of November 2011, he has been enrolled as a PhD candidate at the Norwegian University of Science and technology (NTNU), Norway. He has more than four publications in local and international journals. He has also participated in three international conferences. His main research interest is on small-scale and low-cost chemistry practical work.
