Merike Kesler

Merike Kesler is senior specialist of science education and teaching at non-profit organization Development Centre Opinkirjo. She is managing all science education related projects included in-service training courses for teachers, courses at teacher training departments (Rauma, Jyväskylä, Rovaniemi, Helsinki), producing materials for educators and youth, science camps, science clubs, science competitions, science network nationally (LUMA Suomi) and internationally (Intel ISEF, EUCYS) cooperation’s etc. since 2004. Merike has been involved as well in entrepreneurship education, media education and democracy education related projects. 2010-2011 she coordinated European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS). The last international project at 2015 was Finland-Estonian co-operation for develop quality standards for informal and non-formal science education in both countries.

From 2006 she is also working at University of Helsinki at faculty of behavioural sciences as lecturer. She is teaching courses in biology didactics for subject and class teachers, physics didactics for class teachers, chemistry didactics for class teachers and she is supervising training courses.

Merike has been secretary in Association for Biology and Geography Teachers Capital City Region for over 10 years. In Association for Science Teaching of Finland she has been chair and vice chair for more than 5 years.

Merike has produced over 600 worksheets for teachers and science educators, edited books, participated in publication workgroups. She is written several books, last one From idea to solution – using creative problem solving in teaching.
