Abstract
In 2016, the Flemish minister of education issued a decree ordering the transformation of the current teacher education programmes for second career teachers. Currently, these programmes are organised separately in universities (for master students) and university colleges (for bachelor students), as well as in learning centres for adult education (for both bachelor and master students). In the future however, learning centres will no longer be able to provide this teacher education programme independently. Since these centres are broadly spread in Flanders and are especially appealing to second career teachers, due to their flexible organisation, a thorough future cooperation is needed between these centres and the Flemish universities and university colleges. Centre for adult education Kisp Volwassenenonderwijs initiated together with KU Leuven university and Thomas More university college an “transition” project, supported by the Flemish department of education. In this project a new, common curriculum was developed (approach, learning outcomes, content, learning activities) as well as mapping the preconditions for the implication of this new curriculum (location, time, grouping, materials and resources, teacher rol, e.g). In this presentation, we will discuss the outcome of the project for our learning centre and the challenges during the process and implementation of the project.
