New Teaching and Learning Scenarios with the New Learning Tools

Luigina Maria Gabriella Da Pra, Università di Siena (Italy)

Abstract

Learning with technology has become essential in today’s schools. Worldwide, governments, education systems, researchers, school leaders, teachers and parents consider technology to be a critical part of a child’s education. Education has to adapt and renew itself to be compatible with the globalized society. The introduction and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are one of the priorities of the education community in the current digital society. The speech will illustrate how ICT can support collaboration, creativity, independent learning and reflection, focusing on the new learning tools for writing, reading and speaking skills. As an interactive and collaborative medium, ICT allows responding, composing and publication to be easily shared. It  offers students the opportunity to explore the language of text more creatively and develop in speakers, readers and writers  an ever widening range of texts and purposes. Engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus, motivates them to practice higher-level critical thinking skills and promotes meaningful learning experiences. Instructors who adopt a student-centered approach to instruction increase opportunities for student engagement, which then helps everyone more successfully achieve the course’s learning objectives.
