Institutional Support Initiatives and Effectiveness of Job Responsibilities of Academic Staff: Structural Equation Modelling Approach

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to assess the influence of institutional support initiative on the effectiveness of academic staff core job responsibilities in some selected private universities in Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for the assessment of the subject matter. Four hundred and forty three (443) respondents were surveyed across all the colleges of the selected universities in Nigeria with the use of stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Structural Equation Model (AMOS 22) was used for the analysis to find the influence and the strength of relationship between independent and dependent variables. Results show research support, pedagogical support and technical support are predictors of Academic staff responsiveness to quality research productivity, quality knowledge sharing and administrative efficiency. The study emphasised the need for review of the various institutional support in order to determine the appropriateness and relevance of the initiative. The contribution of the study to the exiting knowledge in the area of human resource management education and employee performance. The insights from this study would help management and other stakeholders in education sector to develop and invest in appropriate institutional support that will enhance job effectiveness.
