The Study on the Research-Oriented Teaching Mode in College English Education

Abstract

Teaching reform and innovation is our teachers permanent direction of efforts in order to meet the needs of constantly-changing society. This presentation introduces our fulfilled educational reform project of college English teaching, which takes “Taylor Principle” as the basic frame work, the Curriculum Theory of Post Modernism as our guidance, and has formed new “Research-oriented Teaching Mode”, i.e. “Oral Presentation + Interactive Discussion + Skills Training + Assessment + Innovative Project Training”. The purpose of our teaching reform is to cultivate more innovative and research-oriented students, serve for the goal of our university to become one of the famous international research universities in future. In the reform trial, we chose 2 college English classes, 69 students, as trial objects, used our own teaching materials written by us teachers to practice content-based teaching method mainly. We also adopted comparative teaching modes between traditional one and reformed one to offer students different opportunities to distinguish their different learning experiences. After one semester, 43 (65.15%) of 66 students were in favor of new teaching mode. Finally we put forward 4 main conclusions according to our project experience.
