The Future of Education

School plays a significant role in our society; it offers students the opportunity to learn necessary concepts and skills. However, the inadequate selection of a university career is one of the main factors for university drop out. Non-continuation rates have gone up, according to official statistics in Colombia. The purpose of the present study was to raise consciousness about life planning education in Colombia. Schools need to integrate career guidance in their educational program and teacher training is required. Based on this necessity, existing career guidance programmes and practices in secondary schools were identified and reviewed. A review was conducted of secondary literature including reports and guidance material in Colombia. Public and private schools were visited and teachers and students were interviewed. Then, a proposal to implement a vocational guidance within the educational context has been designed. The plan includes the dimensions of career intervention, parties involved and strategies with the support of assessment and evaluation outcomes.
