The Future of Education

During the last decade, different Universities and centers of higher education began systematically to close humanities and social sciences programs with the argument that these areas or disciplines little contributed to the vertiginous world of global finance and multinational industries. The reality showed with fatal consequences, that the educational systems could not work without the humanistic formation and that those contents were a requirement to avoid the costs associated with corruption, bad business practices, dehumanization and inequality at the global level. However, the ideology of productivity had already internalized in young people the idea that the humanities, the social sciences, ethics were "second-class subjects" and that instrumental knowledge was what mattered. This paper demonstrates from the experience of a pedagogical project carried out during the last semester of 2018 in the Juan de Castellanos University Foundation (Tunja - Colombia), how the incorporation of the learning - service approach and the experiential pedagogy can help young people of different careers to engage in social service, to dignify their professions from humanization and to be sensitive to social realities. It is hoped that with this paper we will be able to establish international working networks that strengthen research in this field and can develop new methods that improve education in the field of the humanities as a social practice and not from an exclusively theoretical perspective.
