Permanence in Technical Education: A Matter beyond Costs

Abstract

This document is a research report on the school retention factors of students  who attend the last cycles of technical training at the International Polytechnic University. The methodological approach of qualitative carácter enable to design a survey based on 8 basic categories, which influence the students' decision-making, at the time of remaining in the technical career, formulated from the bibliographic review corresponding to economic factors, family influence, institutional prestige, work projection, emotions, educational environment, quality of teaching processes and physical environment. The content analysis and the statistical data permitted to establish  that the flexibility in the schedules and work projection are the main reasons for the student to decide to continue their studies. Additionally, students have considered withdrawing from the study programs  mainly due to some institutional policies associated with academic quality, educational costs and the services offered.
