The Mediating Effect of Confidence with Using Technology on the Relationship between Perceived Parental Support and Motivation and Self-Regulation towards Technology Learning

Abstract

This study examines the mediating role of confidence with using technology on the relationship between perceived parental support and motivation and self-regulation towards technology learning. The participants were 687 students of the Visayas State University - Isabel Campus, Isabel, Leyte, Philippines. Quantitative research design and a casual research approach were employed to measure the relationships of confidence with using technology, perceived parental support, and motivation and self-regulation towards technology learning. Results of the partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) indicated that perceived parental support is significantly and positively related to motivation and self-regulation towards technology learning. Moreover, there is a significant and positive relationship between perceived parental support and confidence with using technology. The findings also suggested that confidence with using technology has a significant and positive effect on motivation and self-regulation towards technology learning. Regarding the mediation model, confidence with using technology mediated the positive relationship between perceived parental support and motivation and self-regulation towards technology learning with a medium effect size. The study also provides implications and directions for future research.
