Dale Lyon is Director of Security Initiatives, trading as ExpLearn and Concrete Scotland. The company predominantly develops and delivers experiential learning and immersive learning activities across Europe, however has its roots in independent consultancy within the Construction Industry and professional sport

Dale has over 30 years experience within the construction industry holding senior roles within technical, operations and commercial departments in several international, national and privately owned companies working on some impressive projects world wide. During this time he also became the Director of Rugby at Edinburgh University where his ability to create innovative ways to deliver teaching over 9 years started to be honed and won him the Coach of the Year Award in 2008

Whilst Chairman of the Concrete Society Scotland, and a Director of the Concrete Society, Dale started to develop the learning resource “An Introduction to Concrete Technology (SCQF Level 5) in 2010 which is now an approved Customised Award accredited by SQA and would be deliverable as an EQF Level 3.

Dale was actively involved in setting up Constructionarium Scotland Ltd a not for profit program for experiential learning predominantly for Built Environment students, but easily transferable to other disciplines which in its 8th year caters for over 200 2nd year students annually . He is currently Operational Director for the Scottish business and is actively looking to develop similar locations globally.

Dale is currently involved as an industry partner in two live Erasmus programs and helping to develop two more where his experience in developing and delivering on desired outcomes and outputs has been seen as essential.

In 2017 Dale was awarded “Innovation In Training” Award by the Scottish Training Federation for his Octavian Project which saw 14 pupils from fifteen to sixteen years old from disadvantaged backgrounds and disengaged with the education process complete the eight week course and become re-engaged so much so that ¾ of them gained positive destinations as a direct result of the program.

Through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with Edinburgh University, Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture Dale has been able to create links with University, Industry and Secondary Schools which allows for community and social responsibility to be delivered in a tangible way with real deliverables that make a difference
