Emilia-Maria Sorescu is university PhD lecturer at Faculty of Social Science, one from the 11 faculties of the University of Craiova, an academic institution with over 70 years of existence.

Emilia graduated in Social Work and Theology from University of Craiova in 1999, and obtained the PhD in Sociology from University of Bucharest in 2006. She has twenty years experiences in higher education and in professional training of the social workers.

Emilia Sorescu is PhD Lecturer, at higher education level, in the field of social work, teaching disciplines as social work theories, social work methods of intervention, social work for children, families and elderly.

In 2017-2018, Emilia Sorescu was short term consultant for World Bank Group, main activities being data collection activities to prepare center closure plans by checking the quality of the information recorded in the evaluation instruments, to evaluate the resources that might be used to compensate for the closing down of the Residential, and to evaluate the effectiveness of community-based services (the services that are supposed to exist in order to reduce the incidence of children’s separation from families, especially in source communities).

Since 2012, she is also an independent social worker, providing professional social work and social services supervision, working with vulnerable groups, communities, families and children in need, offering consultancy in the field. In this quality, since 2016 she collaborates with the Romanian Ombudsman, evaluating the quality of the social services for children, elderly, people with disabilities, psychiatric patients and incarcerated persons, within the national mechanism for the prevention of torture at places of detention.

As expert in child protection and as trainer, she collaborated for five years with international NGO, as Terre des Hommes Foundation Switzerland, and has worked in various projects implemented by National College of Social Workers and the University of Craiova.

She published The Old Age between blessing and course. The Sociology of the old age, Editura Universitaria, Craiova, ISBN: 978-606-510-334-4 (2008), coordinated Forum on studies of society : conference proceedings: Craiova, Editura Pro Universitaria, ISBN: 978-606-26-0710-4 (2016,), participated at international and national scientific conferences and she is author and coauthor of articles on subjects such as social work profession and competencies, globalization, child abuse, elderly abuse.
