Kavita Rao is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education of the College of Education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her research agenda includes technology for children with disabilities, online learning for non-traditional students, the use of universal design frameworks to create inclusive learning environments, and technology-related educational strategies for English language learners and immigrant students. Kavita teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on assistive and educational technologies and courses on instructional strategies in the special education department.
Kavita’s prior professional experience includes working as a school technology coordinator in Massachusetts and as an educational technology specialist for Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) in Honolulu. She has worked with state education agencies and schools in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, CNMI, Palau, RMI, and the Federated States of Micronesia, conducting professional development trainings to help teachers integrate technology into curriculum. Kavita has also conducted workshops on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) around the US and internationally.
