Hannah Strickland began her teacher education at the University of Manchester over twenty years ago. She went on to support trainees in a variety of settings within a rewarding career of teaching English and drama in Greater Manchester and its surrounding areas, in a mixture of state schools, including comprehensive and grammar, mixed and single sex schools.
At the University of Manchester, Hannah leads the PGCE Secondary English team. Hannah designed and led the Subject Knowledge Enhancement course for trainees who are to begin their PGCE study, as well as contributing to the Secondary PGCE EPS programme and its development. Her role has also included supporting individuals across subjects in need of targeted interventions as part of the WAPP diversity coaching programme.
Hannah’s research interests include a number of social justice topics, including engaging with trainee/teachers’ experiences of teaching with invisible dis/abilities, as well as developing diverse curricula and safe, diverse educational spaces. She is also interested in researching the impact of mentoring relationships and professional development, in line with her Master’s degree in Coaching & Mentoring. Creativity in the English classroom is also a key pedagogical concern.
