Tina Keller

Institution: Messiah College

Country: United States

Dr. Tina Keller is an assistant Professor of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Messiah College. She earned her Ph.D. from New Mexico State University and masters from Penn State. She attended Messiah College for her undergraduate degree.

Dr. Keller previously taught at Westminster College, worked as an educational consultant for school districts, and taught in public schools. During her time working as an English as a Second Language teacher, she began to realize the connections between language, class, immigration status and race. In teaching the children of migrant farm workers, she was exposed to systematic oppression in ways that she never knew existed. That experience changed the way she taught and viewed the world. Those early seeds of advocacy are still evident today in the ways that she prepares current Messiah College students to teach linguistically and culturally diverse children.

Her current research interests examine the intersectionalities associated with teacher and student identity. She has published articles and book chapters associated with examining ideology and identity.

Dr. Keller is an avid traveler and enjoys experiencing new cultures.
