Paula Hodgson

Dr Hodgson was one of the pioneers in promoting and supporting e-Learning in Hong Kong. She has been working in higher education since 1997, and served Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Auckland, University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, and now the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Her research areas include technology-enriched teaching and learning, assessment in higher education, and massive open online courses. Serving in the Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research in CUHK since September 2015, she is the principal investigator in ‘Immersive virtual reality’ and ‘SMART assessment’ [https://www.smartassessments.net] and a co-principal investigator in eight other projects funded by the university. Concurrently, she is the co-principal investigator of the following joint-university Teaching and Learning Projects 2016–19 funded by the University Grants Committee: (1) ‘Coding, Design, and Global Involvement: Engaging Students in Multi-domain Active Learning through the Creation of Mobile Apps and an Apps Resource Centre (ARC)’; (2) ‘Augmenting Physical Learning Spaces with Location-based Services Using iBeacon Technology for Innovative Learning and Teaching’; and (3) ‘Enhancing Learning Outcomes for Students through a Data-driven Review of the 4-year Curriculum in UGC-funded Programs’. She has been an ongoing paper reviewer for Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, Higher Education, and Computers and Education.

Dr. Hodgson was invited to provide talks to tertiary education in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. In addition, she is an ongoing reviewer for Higher Education, Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, Computers and Education, Education Research International, the World Conference on Educational Media and Technology (EDMEDIA), and the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) conference.

She has been invited to present in universities in Hong Kong, Philippine, Malaysia, Vietnam and Russia and share exemplary practices with visitors from Germany, China and many tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. She has presented papers in conferences in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, and she has made over 150 publications.
