Carmen M. Amerstorfer

Carmen M. Amerstorfer is a Senior Scientist at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria. She has extensive and in-depth experience of teaching EFL learners at various age and proficiency levels at national and international educational institutions. Carmen holds a Diploma from the Private University College of Education Linz, an MEd degree from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD from the University of Klagenfurt, where she has worked as a researcher and teacher educator. Carmen’s research encompasses features of psychology of language learning and teaching as well as humanistic and learner-centred teaching approaches, particularly problem-based learning and cooperative learning.

To promote professional exchange and networking, Carmen has organised multiple national and international conference. Besides numerous book chapters and journal articles, she has published a co-edited volume about language learning strategies. She is currently co-editing another book entitled “Activating and Engaging Learners and Teachers: Perspectives for English Language Education” and is pursuing a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation). Carmen has considerable experience in management and other academic functions and has repeatedly worked as a reviewer for academic journals and publishers.

In her EFL teacher education courses, Carmen integrates 21st century skills, applies problem-based and project-based teaching approaches, and organises excursions to innovative schools as opportunities for pre-service teachers to explore different aspects of their future profession. Alongside developing students’ teaching competences, Carmen always aims to broaden their pedagogical horizons, methodological creativity, communicative and collaborative abilities, as well as social skills.
