Olinda Martins holds a PhD in Design from the University of Aveiro https://www.ua.pt/pt/deca and is an integrated researcher at ID+ Institute https://idmais.org. Her research spans Typography, Editorial Design, Graphic Production, and Archives, connecting the fundamental role of drawing in design practice and pedagogy. She has published several articles in international conferences, journals and books in these areas of expertise.
As a Guest Assistant Professor at both the Department of Communication and Art, University of Aveiro and Lusófona University of Porto, she teaches a range of subjects including Typography, Editorial Design, Reprography, Graphic Representation, Design History and Semiotics.
Beyond academia, Olinda maintains an active design practice and collaborates with various cultural institutions and publishers. Her professional portfolio includes collaborations with prestigious Portuguese publishers, such as Catholic University Press, Fio da Palavra, Figueirinhas, and Edições Asa, as well as cultural institutions in theatre and music.
Olinda's curatorial work features exhibitions that explore Design History, Editorial Design, Typography, and Graphic Production. Recent exhibitions include "Gatafunhos" (2024), "Ver e Ouvir Amélias" (2023), and "Errata: A Feminist Revision of Graphic Design History" (2021). As an editor, she has coordinated the publication of several books, including " Portugal China Dialogues: Swap the Mask " (2024) and "Portugal China Dialogues: Visual Explorations Between Two Cultures" (2023).
