Matan Aharoni

Matan Aharoni (Ph.D., Haifa University, 2015) is a media anthropologist.
Matan Aharoni is a senior faculty member at the School of Communication, Ariel University, Israel.

He is an expert in qualitative research methods. His research focuses on intermedia studies and media systems interactions, on media
representation of minorities in mainstream, community, and alternative media, on digital, visual and web culture, and the ethnography of media organizations.

Matan Aharoni completed his doctoral studies in 2015 at Haifa University under the guidance of Prof. Tamar Katriel.

Matan is the Vice Dean of the School of Communication at Ariel University.
He also serves as a member of the Senior Faculty Council of Ariel University.

Matan is also a board member of the Israel Communications Association and a member of the editorial board of the academic journal “Media Frames”.

Matan has published dozens of articles in respected and important journals, such as “New Media & Society,” “Mass Communication and Society,” “Television & New Media”, “Convergence”, and “Feminist Media Studies.” His book, “It’s Not Cinema, It’s a Social Gathering”: Communal and Social Boundaries in Haredi Leisure Culture.” Published in 2021 by Mossad Bialik publication.

Matan supervises outstanding doctoral students and master students.
