The Framework for Obtaining Child Motivation to Write e-Stories

Abstract

Storytelling is one of the strategies that used as a pedagogical strategy in education to improve writing processes. Teachers use storytelling strategy as a mechanism to improve the student ability to write narratives generally in terms of use of grammatical structures and expand vocabulary. There has been an increasing interest in Digital storytelling tool (DSTT), which integrated storytelling strategy with multimedia, mainly through online or offline environments. The purpose of this research is to investigate what are educational and technical requirements from teachers to motivate child to write e-stories that can be used as a baseline to be able to develop an instrument that supports teachers in identifying appropriate DST tools that can motivate child to write Arabic e-stories. Triangulation method was used to explore what are the educational and technical requirements from teacher for motivating children (9-11 years old) to write e-stories. All educational and technical requirements are combined to form the framework for motivating child to write Arabic e-stories in Saudi Arabia. After constructed the proposed framework in step one, step two involved expert review which reviewed the proposed framework. Then, the reviewed framework was confirmed by distributing the survey to 244 experts from different regions in Saudi Arabia. The future work will use the content of the framework to inform the requirements to support teachers in identifying an appropriate DST tools that motivate children to write Arabic e-stories.
