Recorded Video Shared in WhatsApp Group as Post Reading Activities: its Benefit for Extensive Reading and Language Learning

Abstract
This study was aimed at investigating students’ opinions on the benefit of recorded video shared in WhatsApp Group in an extensive reading program and language learning for the first year students majoring in Teaching English at Faculty of Teacher Training. Recorded video of the students describing what they read was chosen as a post reading activities instead of reading journal, a more popular and widely used post reading activities in extensive reading. The recorded video, shared in WhatsApp group is believed to be more interesting and help improve students’ motivation and engagement in the extensive reading program. The recorded video was used in an extensive reading program as part of Reading II subject offered for the second semester of English Department students at Islamic State Institute. The participants of the research consist of 73 students from two classes. A questionnaire was designed to elicit responses from the students about their opinion on the use of the video. Implications to EFL language learning and teaching are generally discussed.
