Abstract
This paper examines the current level of disengagement of college students enrolled in World Language courses. It explores the root causes of declining enrollments in language courses and proposes potential solutions for recapturing and re-engaging those students by utilizing innovative and creative teaching and recruiting techniques. Discussed will be the use of technology and language learning apps, the importance of transforming standard teaching practices to correspond with contemporary learning styles, and the employment of service-learning as the humanizing agent that re-engages students with their peers, their professors, their community, and their purpose in studying language at an institution of higher learning.
