Abstract

The primary goal of this paper is to deep dive into specific skills and competences of trainee teachers which they will need in the future, focusing predominantly on global skills, emotional and cultural intelligence that are deemed as necessary to carry out a teaching job. We exposed the selected number of university teachers (13) teaching at Matej Bel University, Banská Bystrica in Slovakia to a number of authentic and expert materials produced by Idaho Museum of International Diaspora (IMID) and explored their integration into their courses which are aimed at preparation of trainee teachers for their practicum and future profession. We aimed to research more into how the opinions of university lecturers have evolved on the topic of diaspora and culture during the period of intensive immersion in IMID scope of focus. The data were collected through the technique of interview and online focus-group discussion, and analysed immediately after. Another crucial aim was to research more about the potential of IMID´s online materials to be integrated in the Department of English and American Studies Curriculum in order to elevate global skills, emotional and cultural intelligence of trainee teachers studying English language and literature and other subjects at the Faculty of Arts.
