Simona Kalová

Simona Kalová is a lecturer at the Department of English and American studies in the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.

Simona graduated in English and Italian language and literature in 1988. She worked as an English and Italian teacher at Brno State Language School in 1989-2009, and as a freelance translator and interpreter in 1992-2004. Since 2009 she has been employed at Masaryk University.

Simona is a lecturer at the English department, designing and teaching in advanced language courses, online courses focused on the development of language skills and vocabulary enhancement, and a course aimed at eliminating typical L1-induced errors. Simona also supervises theses in Bachelor´s and Master´s degree programmes, and participates in language examinations. She is a coordinator of BA state examinations at the department.

Simona is currently studying a Doctoral degree programme at the Faculty of Education. In her research project, she examines the role of errors in learning and teaching, effects of mother tongue on second and foreign language acquisition, and possibilities of eliminating fossilized errors in learner language.
