Lifeng Hu

Lifeng Hu is the assistant director of foreign language program at Lewis University, a comprehensive, Catholic university that stresses the importance of the traditions of liberal learning, values and preparation for professional work.
Lifeng graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a master degree in English as an International Language. Since then, for the last 28 years, she has been working in the field of foreign language education, teaching both English and Chinese as a foreign language, both in Taiwan and in U.S.
From 1985 to 1988, 1990- 2000, she worked as English teacher at Middle schools and high school in Taiwan, teaching intensive English courses for entrance exams. After she got married and moved to USA from Taiwan, she first worked at Good Deed Language Academy as Director for co-curricular activities, and then continued to teach Chinese as Chicago State University. She was hired as a Chinese instructor at Lewis University in 2007, and several years later, became assistant director for foreign language program to help with new hire training, curriculum design and program assessment.
Lifeng is an expert in second language acquisition and curriculum design, focusing on innovative ways to design standards-based and thematically-organized curriculum, as well as conducting performance based assessment.
In addition to teaching beginning and intermediate Chinese courses at Lewis Univerity, she has also been involved with summer STARTALK program (a federal funded intensive language program) for the past ten years, acting as instructional lead and program director.
Lifeng is a translator for Bible Study Fellowship International since 2012, helping with translating extensive Bible study materials from English to Chinese.
Lifeng has been involved with Midwest Taiwanese Mandarin Teacher Association since 2010, developed and coordinated partnership with Overseas Community Affairs Council, Taiwan and various local middle schools and high schools.
Areas of expertise: oral communication, standards-based curriculum, thematic curriculum, performance-based assessment, comprehensible input.
