Agnieszka Kurzyńska

Agnieszka Marta Kurzyńska is a researcher and teacher at the Institute of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics at the Department of Humanities, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. She has worked there since 2004, now as Assistant Profesor (previously: Research Assistant). She holds an MA in Modern Language Studies with a major in Applied Linguistics (German and Russian). She defended her MA thesis Englische Entlehnungen in der deutschen Sprache in 2003. In 2004 she completed a post-grad programme in Journalism, with the diploma paper on evaluative vocabulary in film reviews of Mel Gibson‘s Passion. In 2012 she defended her PhD thesis on the German pop song as a textual genre. As an academic teacher she currently teaches Practical German (speaking, writing, grammar) and German Descriptive Grammar (syntax and morphology). Previously, she also taught Specialization Seminars, BA Seminar as well as the Fundamentals of Russian Translation (in Russian). She also worked as a teacher of German on various levels of linguistic competence in private language schools. In the course of her professional work she has published academic papers (e.g. in journals Neofilolog, Linguistica Bidgostiana) and attended conferences on linguistics and education.

Her research interests include the changes in contemporary Polish language (e.g. borrowings, neosemantization, trends in language development, expansion of vocabulary); foreign influences on languages (German, Polish), the phenomenon of interference, as well as the variants of language, sociolects and regionalisms. Currently, she focuses on the language of gender: stereotypes present in language, reinforced through language and created in language, as well as their connections to political correctness in discourses and language-based discrimination in the media and everyday life.
