Domenico Bracciodieta

Domenico Bracciodieta teaches English in IISS Leonardo da Vinci in Cassano delle Murge (Bari). He has been teaching English for over 30 years.

He graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bari in 1983 discussing a thesis on North American Literature, one of his major interests.

He participated in a number of in-service training courses before becoming a qualified teacher trainer in methodology and linguistic competences for primary and secondary teachers, including CLIL lesson plans.
In his school Domenico Bracciodieta has covered multiple functions, from being head of Language Department to Deputy Headmaster, being also responsible of innovative language EU funded projects for international student mobility and research projects, mainly in London, UK in collaboration with the Science Museum, Imperial College and Tate Modern.

After translating articles from The Monthly Review for its Italian edition and collaborating in the translation of books to promote local tourist attractions and popular traditions at an international level, in 2000 Domenico Bracciodieta published a History and Anthology of English and American Literature in 3 volumes, for Laterza publishers, entitled Sharing Worlds, in collaboration with his colleague Rosanna Brancaleone (ISBN 88-421-0571-6 / ISBN 88-421-0572-4).

The next year, in 2001, he won a Fulbright scholarship for the American Study Seminar at the University of Illinois, Chicago USA, developing his research in US culture.
He has held conferences and arranged meetings to introduce writers and their books in his institution: Joe R. Lansdale for his novel Vanilla Ride in 2009, Dan Falk for his book The Science of Shakespeare in 2016 and Kassia St Clair for The Secret Lives of Colours in 2017 in the course of the Science Festival that takes place annually in April at Liceo ‘Leonardo’ in Cassano delle Murge.
In 2010 Domenico Bracciodieta gave a talk on the American poet Anne Sexton at Villa Russiz in Capriva del Friuli, Italy, within the meetings about Poetry of Exile.
In 2017 he led the team of teachers in his school that joined the INDIRE proposal of new teaching methodologies named ‘Avangurdie Educative’, participating in Florence in the ‘Didacta’ meetings and talks about innovation in education. The new methodology, called ‘Oltre le Discipline’, is based on the development of Project Based Learning techniques combined with an effective application of the scientific method categories in class projects, where interactions between school subjects gets a distinctive value.
Domenico Bracciodieta is currently developing a web application, in collaboration with Anthony Green, to foster listening skills in English language learning, based on a bottom-up approach to decipher sounds, intonation and accents in authentic speech.

Areas of expertise: Anglo-American Literature, teacher training, assessment and evaluation, listening skills in learning English, study skills, classroom management, planning and organization of cultural events, project works and PBL, CLIL courses.
