Petra Jesenská

Petra Jesenská is a university teacher, guarantor of the bachelor's study program of pedagogical sciences, member of the MBU Faculty of Arts committee for research and publishing management.

Petra graduated in British and American Studies from the Prešov University (Prešov, Slovakia) in 2000. Since then, for the last 22 years, she has constantly been working in the field of English language education at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. In 2007, she defended her dissertation on Anglicisms in the Daily Press from a Sociolinguistic Aspect (2007, 160 pp.) at the Institute of Linguistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava (Slovakia). In 2009, she defended the rigorous work Presenting Gender Roles and Stereotypes in Selected English Language Textbooks for Adult Learners (159 pp.) at the Department of English and American Studies, Faculty of Humanities, MBU in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. In 2013, in the field of general linguistics, she defended her habilitation thesis Interdisciplinary Aspects of Enriching and Cultivating Slovak Vocabulary through Anglicisms at Faculty of Humanities MBU in Banská Bystrica.

Since 2000, Petra has participated in several lecture and study stays and mobility stays abroad in the UK, USA, the Czech Republic and Poland.

In total, so far she has participated in more than 30 domestic and foreign conferences, where she presented the results of her research findings.

Petra leads lectures and seminars in bachelor's, master's, and postgraduate full-time and part-time studies. She teaches academic courses of English Lexicology, Sociolinguistics, Linguistic Landscape and English Through Literature seminar. In postgraduate studies, she conducts seminars on Scientific and Academic Communication Skills in English Language. As a supervisor, she conducts final bachelor's, master's, and rigorous theses.
