Constance Lavoie is a professor of French didactics in the Department of Education Sciences at the University of Québec at Chicoutimi.
Constance received her PhD in Second Language Education from McGill University in 2009. Since then she has taught many courses on language pedagogy and has given teacher training courses with a focus on French language education in Indigenous communities. Prior to working at the university, she taught at the Primary level in Montréal, in Burkina Faso, and in Bolivia.
Her research includes projects with goals such as improving methods of teaching vocabulary at the Kindergarten and Primary levels and promoting the teaching of oral communication in multilingual and Indigenous communities. She has also developed a multimodal approach to vocabulary building in group settings using heuristic maps, called the Communauté de recherche lexicale (Community of Lexical Inquiry). Constance is the co-author of the books Découvrir les mots et enrichir le langage, published by CEC in 2017, and L’oral et son enseignement : diversité des contextes linguistiques, published by Peisaj in 2017. She has also published numerous journal articles such as Lavoie, C. and Blanchet, P-A. (2018). Teaching Life Narratives in the Classroom: Strategies Based on Indigenous Traditions. Diaspora, Indigenous, and Minority Education Journal, 12(3): 155-166.
