Innovation in Language Learning

Dr Ramírez-Verdugo (PhD, MA) currently works as an Associate Professor of English Applied Linguistics & English Teacher Education at the Department of Modern Languages and Pedagogy, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). Her research interests involve Digital Storytelling, Educational Technology, Bilingual Education, CLIL, STEAM, Prosody, Intonation, and Intercultural Pragmatics. She has recently published L2 Intonation Discourse. Research Insights (Routledge, 2022); Interdisciplinary Approaches toward Enhancing Teacher Education (2021); A Sociocultural Study on English Learners Critical Thinking Skills and Competence (2021); Bilingual Education from Learners’ Perspectives (2020); or A Conceptual Reference Framework for Sustainability Education in Multilingual and Cross-Cultural Settings: Applied Technology, Transmedia and Digital Storytelling. Currently, she coordinates the UAM-TeLL research group (Technology Enhanced Content and Language Integrated Learning in Bilingual Education and Intercultural Settings). UAM-TeLL investigates the effect and uses of technology in language learning - first, second and foreign language contexts and apply speech technology and analysis to language recognition and language perception studies both for academic and professional purposes. Dr Ramírez has been a visiting professor at the Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics, University of Cambridge (2005); Universidad del Valle de Orizaba, Veracruz, México (2006); York College-City of New York (2012); Graduate Center- CUNY (2012); Mercy College-New York - English Department (2012); the University of Umea, Sweden (2013); Centre for Applied Language Studies, University of Jyväskylä, Finland (2014); University Technology Sydney, Australia (2017), StoryCenter, San Francisco, US (2019), among other universities and research centres.
