Laura Branchetti is a Post Doc researcher in Mathematics Education and Adjunct Professor in Mathematics Education and Foundation of Mathematics at the University of Parma, Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer science.
Laura graduated in Mathematics at the University of Bologna in 2011 and obtained a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at the University of Palermo in 2016. Before starting working at the University, she taught Mathematics and Physics in the high school from 2012 until 2017. She has been training teachers in Mathematics education of every school grade since 2012.
Laura is member of two research groups: NRD (Research group in Mathematica education, Bologna, Prof. Bruno D’Amore) and the Physics education research group, leaded by Olivia Levrini, University of Bologna. Her research interests concern the field of Mathematics and Physics education and one of the main feature of her research is the interdisciplinarity between different fields. Indeed, in addition to her studies about the high school teachers choices in the transition from the high school to University - with particular attention to real numbers and continuum in Analysis - she carried out several collaborations outside her main field of investigation. She has been collaborating for four years with Francesca Morselli, University of Genova, studying with her the interaction between peers and between students and teachers in mathematical problem solving groupworks. In the same period she collaborated with the Bologna physics education group, developing new approaches to the investigation of interdisciplinary topics involving Mathematics and Physics and contributing to the ideation and development of activities for the European project I SEE whose goals are the improvement of scientific citizenships skills and the fostering of positive attitudes towards the imagination of the future in high school students. Furthermore, she worked with experts in linguistic and education, in particular Matteo Viale, University of Bologna, elaborating teacher training materials and carrying out courses for teachers concerning the linguistic issues in Mathematics and Physics teaching and learning in the secondary and high school.
Laura collaborated with INVALSI (Italian acronym for the National Institute of Assessment of the Educational System), in particular with Professor Giorgio Bolondi, investigating the factors affecting students’ strategies in answering questions to standardized tests.
Laura participated at several national and international conferences, presenting her researches in collaboration with other researchers, both in the field of Mathematics education (CERME, ICME) and Science education (EARLI, ESERA) and was member of the local organization of EARLI, SIG 3 on Conceptual change in Bologna, 2014.

Areas of expertise: mathematics and physics teaching and learning, mathematics education, physics education, interdisciplinarity in high school teaching and learning, standardized assessment.
