Aurelie Lachish-Zalait, director of the Teachers Professional Development Unit at the Davidson Institute of Science Education, the educational arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Aurelie acquired a PhD in Chemistry from the Department of Materials and Interfaces at the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2005. Her research was focused on the transport of DNA molecules into the cell nucleous. After completion of her post-doctoral training and working in the private sector for a few years, she returned to the Weizmann Institute to acquire a teaching certificate in chemistry. In 2010 she began to work at the Davidson Institute of Science Education. In concurrence with development of learning materials and mentoring students on research projects in labs of the Weizmann Institute, she has co-established a scientific excellence program for junior high schools. In addition, she teaches chemistry at high school.
Since 2014 she has been directing the Teachers' Professional Development Unit at the Davidson Institute. The unit develops and implements a variety of programs for the professional development of math and science teachers, emphasizing active and diverse teaching and assessment methods, and offering continuous support for the teachers as they implement the programs in schools.
