Natalie Colson is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University Gold Coast. Natalie graduated from a Bachelor of Health Science (Honours 1a) in 2003. Natalie went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in complex disease genetics, a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education and a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.


Natalie has been the program director of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science Gold Coast for the past seven years and is now the Program Director of the School of Medical Science Honours Program. Natalie’s teaching experience spans across large first year classes to specialised postgraduate programs, such as the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Doctor of Medicine. Natalie is also involved in the supervision of postgraduate students; currently 3 doctoral candidates and an Honours student.


Natalie has been involved in a number of projects promoting student engagement and empowerment, the most recent being the flexible delivery of the Foundation Year Health program. She has received over $600K in grant funding for teaching and learning projects over the past 5 years.


Natalie has published thirty-one manuscripts in peer reviewed scientific and teaching & learning journals, along with two book chapters. She has presented at numerous education and scientific conferences nationally and internationally.


Natalie has been formally recognised for her distinctive teaching approaches, including two Dean’s commendations, two Griffith University Citations, a Griffith University Excellence in Teaching Award and an Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.


Areas of expertise: Teaching large first year classes; curriculum development; higher education; assessment practices; creating an engaging curriculum; teaching future health professionals, innovative teaching practices.
