Isabel Allen is a Chemistry teacher at Agrupamento de Escolas da Maia which is composed of 4 schools: Secondary school of Maia, the host school, EB2/3 of Gueifães, EB1 nº1 of Gueifães and EB1 nº2 of Gueifães.

In 1990 Isabel was graduated in Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto, where she also completed her master degree in Analytical Chemistry. For the last 26 years, she has been working in the field of education, in higher education (1993/1994 at Higher School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University; 1993/1995 at ISEP – Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto) and in secondary schools since 1992.

Isabel has done some research work in the field of Chemistry (1990/1991 in “Coffee decaffeination by a natural process” and 1992 in “Chemical characterization of the Elderberry and extraction of dyes from Elderberry” at Superior School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University). She also provided support to the Food Quality Centre of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University in 1992.

Isabel coordinated two “Ciência Viva” projects – “Try to learn in Physics” (1998/1999) and “Try to learn Natural Science and Physics-Chemistry” (2002/2003) as well as an Erasmus KA201 project (2016/2018). At the moment she is the coordinator of three Erasmus+ KA229 Strategic Partnership projects at Agrupamento de Escolas da Maia, “Motion in the Science Ocean”, “European School of the Future” and “ISLAB”. She belongs to the International Committee of the same Agrupamento. She is participating on a Horizon2020 project – “NEMESIS”.

Isabel also participated in various projects: “Pulsar”, “Physics on Stage 1”, “Physics on Stage 2”, “Physics on Stage 3”, “Human Genome” and “Eratosthenes project”.
