Rocco Romano is a full professor of Physics at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno with a specific expertise in NMR, medical physics, radiation protection and physical sensors for environmental monitoring.
Rocco graduated in Physics from the University of Naples “Federico II” in 1995. From 1996 to 1999 he was a PhD student at University of Naples “Federico II”, where he obtained his PhD in physics. From 2000 to 2005 he worked as a researcher at the University of Naples “Federico II”. From 2005 to 2011 he worked as a researcher at the University of Salerno. In the 2006 he obtained his Specialization in Medical Physics at the University of Naples “Federico II”. From 2011 to 2019 he was an associate professor in physics at the University of Salerno. From 2019 he is a full professor in physics at the University of Salerno.
Rocco is expert in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Medical Physics and Radiation protection. From 2009 is the expert in radiation protection of the University of Salerno and collaborates, as medical physics and expert in radiation protection, with the Salerno hospital.
From 2006 is a member of the Virgo collaboration for detecting gravitational waves with sensory for environmental monitoring tasks.
Rocco takes courses, both basic and advanced, of physics, statistics, NMR, radiation protection and biomedical physics. From 2016 he is the Director of the master “Gestione Radiofarmaci”, on the use of radio pharmaceuticals for diagnostic and/or therapeutic use at the University of Salerno.
From 2017 Rocco is the sole administrator of the innovative start-up Advanced Scientific Sensors and Systems srl, spin-off of the University of Salerno, on sensors and systems for environmental monitoring.
As a scientist, Rocco is author and co-author of more than 300 publications (33700 citations, h-index 69). In the 2016 Rocco, as a member of the Virgo collaboration, was awarded the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics - Awarded For Detection Of Gravitational Waves 100 Years After Albert Einstein Predicted Their Existence - and the Gruber Cosmology Prize, for the detection of gravitational waves on 14 September 2015.
