Country: Slovakia
Alexandra Maruniaková is a PhD student at the Faculty of Education, Trnava University in Trnava, where she is enrolled in the doctoral study programme Theory of Science Education.
In her academic studies, she focuses on educational research in the field of environmental education, with an emphasis on environmental attitudes, awareness, and responsibility in the context of educating future teachers and pupils.
Her current conference paper is part of a collaborative research project and focuses on the environmental awareness and environmental attitudes of children in preschool education. This topic represents one of the relevant contexts for examining the impact of environmental education in early childhood and forms part of a broader research framework on environmental education in various educational settings.
In her doctoral dissertation entitled Perception of Environmental Responsibility among Pre-service Teachers, she focuses on how future teachers understand environmental responsibility, how they distinguish between environmental activities and pro-environmental behaviour, and how they perceive their readiness to engage in this area within their pedagogical practice. Within her research activities, she is primarily engaged in quantitative educational research, the analysis of environmental attitudes and value orientations, as well as the examination of the impact of different educational approaches on the formation of relationships with nature. She is a co-author of several conference papers, academic articles, and didactic publications focused on environmental and biological education, including contributions to the development of workbooks and methodological materials for pupils and teachers. Within the didactics of biology, she also focuses on the educational treatment of topics related to invertebrates and entomology, which she considers an appropriate means for fostering environmental responsibility, ethical perceptions of nature, and an understanding of ecological relationships. She pays particular attention to topics related to bees in the context of environmental education.
Alongside her academic studies, she is actively involved in student self-governance at the national level. Since 2023, she has served as a delegate to the Student Council of Higher Education Institutions, and since 2025 she has been a member of its Presidency, where she focuses primarily on issues related to quality assurance in higher education.
Her research interests include environmental education, environmental attitudes and responsibility, the didactics of biology and science subjects, teacher education, preschool and primary education in environmental contexts, as well as various educational approaches that support the development of environmentally responsible thinking.
