Gabriela Abuhab Valente develops doctoral research in Sociology of Education in co-tutelage between the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo (FEUSP) and the Université Lumière Lyon 2. The name of her thesis is “Teaching practices and the religious question: comparison elements between Brazil and France”
She works in the area of Sociology of Education, Sociology of Religion and Professional Teacher Socialization, with emphasis on themes related to educational processes and socializing in the public school and its interface with the religious sphere.
Gabriela Abuhab Valente is a member of the GPS - Group Practices of Contemporary Socialization, since 2010 (University of São Paulo) and the Laboratoire ECP – Education, Cultures, Politiques, since 2015 (Université Lumière Lyon 2).
Since 2015, Gabriela Abuhab Valente coordinates the Brazilian research group engaged to contribute to the research “Religions, Discriminations and Racism at School” (REDISCO) led by the University of Lyon in partnership with French Institute of Education (2015-2020). The interdisciplinary and international group (France, Quebec, Switzerland, Brazil) aims to understand how school professionals interpret the expression of religions, as well as discrimination and racism phenomena.
In 2018, she was rewarded with an excellence award from “Association pour le Développement des Méthodologies d’Évaluation en Éducation” – ADMEE-Europe.
Areas of expertise: public school, teaching practice, religious education, religious plurality, religious socialization, religiosity and the secular state, compared education, Brazilian religiosity, teaching socialization.
