Language Teachers Candidates’ Self - reflection on Child Language Learning

Abstract

Teaching a foreign language to young learners can be a difficult task for language teacher candidates. Therefore, foreign language teacher candidates should improve their knowledge and they are expected to reflect on their learning and teaching through self-reflection. Self-reflection always helps young language teachers understand their skills, abilities and understandings of themselves.

This action research paper arises of a qualitative study. The purpose of this study is to seek the improvement of language teacher candidates who were learning how to teach English for young learners. In this study, student teachers evaluated themselves critically during their learning process. 30 language teacher candidates from Faculty of Education participated in this study. The instructor of the lesson created the teacher education program which contains lots of games, songs and creative activities for young learners Language teacher candidates presented these songs, games and materials in order to teach English.

At the end of the training process, a questionnaire was given to the language teacher candidates to evaluate themselves during this period. The Findings were examined and some suggestions that focused on language teacher training candidates were put forward.
