Students’ Performance on English Online Programme at a Private University in Malaysia

Abstract

The Objective of this paper is to investigate the students’ satisfaction in an English Online Programme at one of the prestigious private university in Malaysia. Online Learning has been introduced in this university since early 2000 and it has been revised and improvised and fully ready for implementation on 2013. Online learning mainly consists of English lessons, exercises, practices and tests for language practice. Support classes were provided to the students once every 3 weeks. The sample groups are 30 Malaysian students studying English as a support course in line with their core programme. The data are analyzed based on pre test and post test performances, classroom observations and interview session with the students. After going through the 9 weeks of intensive online learning session together with three sessions of support classes, it was found that majority students performed well in the post test in comparison to their pre-test. Students were also required to give feedbacks and response based on their learning experiences and how the programme has benefited them in improving their performance on English Language overall.
