Abstract

This paper is aimed to present an initial study of students’ behavior and performance in a module of distance learning of Brazilian Sign Language at the University of São Paulo during the three semesters of their offering. For this proposal, data from the Virtual Learning Environment were analysed observing the group of students profile, their behavior and performance in the activities proposed by the course as the final assessment. The performance of students in the final test was satisfactory, with the approval of more than 400 students by satisfactory production of sign language, according to the objectives of the discipline. New challenges must be installed in face of the demand of students and on the technical and pedagogical possibilities. This should open the possibility for new proposals aiming to disseminate the Brazilian Sign Language and education benefit of the Brazilian Deaf Community.
