ICT Compliance: towards Professional Development of English Language Teachers in Ekiti State Public Primary Schools

Abstract
The study examines the need for inculcating the pedagogical benefits of Information Communication Technology ( ICT) in the teaching and learning of English Language in Public Schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The Cluster Impact Survey research design was used in this study. Also, a Needs-Based Interactive Session comprising a minimum of ten schools and five teachers per cluster were mentored and observed by professional educators for thirteen weeks. Furthermore, as a pre-survey, questionnaires were administered on two hundred and fifty hundred teachers from the five cluster centres five accessible locations in Ekiti State. Standardised data sheets such as Classroom Lesson Observation Checklist (CLOC) and Cluster Lesson Observation List (CLOL) were utilized for the study. The data retrieved from the study were analysed using statistical tools supported by SPSS 6.0. The results from the findings, among others, revealed that 89.5% of the participant were not basically knowledgeable in the utilisation of the various forms of ICT as a pedagogical and technical requirement required for the teaching and learning of English.
