Abstract
This research tries to find out the ways of helping the shy and nervous students to speak more fluently, accurately and confidently. As Woodrow (2006) claimed that “second language anxiety has a debilitating effect on the oral performance of speakers of English as a second language” and for it’s this sort of nature, anxiety should be reduced (Wei and Yodkamlue, 2012). Furthermore, according to Krashen (1985) effective filter hypothesis, anxiety hinders the language production to a great extent. Horwitz (2001) mentioned that anxiety is indeed a cause of poor language learning in some individuals. Though, Liu and Huang (2007) listed a number of reasons are responsible for the anxiety in English speaking. Among them, lack of vocabulary, low English performance, lack of preparation and practice, fear of making mistakes and being laughed at, fear of being at the focus, inability of express ideas, memory disassociation and fear of being unable to follow and understand others are worth mentioning. In this connection, most of the Bangladeshi undergraduate level students are struggling to make a convincing presentation in front of a group of audience due to “Anxiety” which is the outcome of their lack of confidence, practice and motivation. After collecting data from the principle stakeholders those are students and teachers through FGD and interview a number of suggestions are given to both the teachers and students. Expecting that, these techniques along with changing government policy would help our learners to become a better presenter.
