Enhancing EFL Teacher Training through International Collaboration with the Use of Videoconferencing

Barbara Loranc-Paszylk, University of Bielsko-Biała (Poland)

Abstract

The presentation aims to discuss an international project carried out by the students (the post-primary EFL teacher trainees) of two universities from Poland and Spain: University of Bielsko-Biala and University of León in spring 2014. As the main objective of the project  was development of EFL   teaching materials that would also address intercultural learning, the participants were to plan, implement and evaluate an activity or task that focused on developing a language skill and sub-skill and, at the same time, included substantial Polish or Spanish cultural content. The plans were to be exchanged between the respective university team prior to the video conference so that the audience could analyze the task plans and didactic materials, and use them for micro teaching that would allow a fuller evaluation. During the final stage of the project, the videoconference, the teams from both countries were to present feedback, evaluation and suggested modifications of the tasks. The evaluation of the project as illustrated in the questionnaires filled in by the participating students will be discussed and concluded with some suggestions for improvement to make the most  of such cross-cultural encounters allowed by the use of ITC tools.
