A Mathematical Model of Teaching and Learning (M2TL)

Shaher R. Elayyan

Abstract

Is it possible to control the Teaching and Learning process (TLP) quantitatively? This is the problem.

As it Known, there are many internal and external variables (factors) that affected on the TLP such as: students(s), teachers(t), physical environment(p), media(m), …etc. So we can express to the TLP as a function of these variables as in the equation

TLP ≈ f(s, t, p, m, …)

TL System is nonlinear, dynamic, continuous, and probabilistic, so these characteristics make it possible to construct such a mathematical model.

Mathematical models are used in natural sciences, engineering applications, and social sciences (economics, psychology, political sciences), so it's important for the educator to have a model to control and adjust all its elements and factors, as so as the physicists control the elements of gases or fluids systems. This model may be try to reduce the gap between the theoretical aspects and practical procedures.

In the paper, the suggested procedures (briefly) will be: Literature review, construct relations and equations, generate and apply the model.
