The article discloses the conception of social component of primary school students’ communicative competence, and presents the attributes of its expression (attentive, listening, tactful interference, value-based attitudes: respecting oneself and interlocutor, managing actions, emotions, and words). The results of the research on the level of social component of communicative competence were presented. It has been determined that girls posses a significantly higher average value of social component comparing to boys of the same age. Students attending schools in major cities of Lithuania feature the highest average values of social component, while third grade students going to rural schools feature the lowest values. Also, dependency of social component of a child on communication of a mother and father (especially) with a child has been established. In addition, dependency of social component of a child on other factors was also established, including number of children in a family, birth order of a child, number of books available at a child’s home library, the time of book reading and playing computer games (the latter shows inverse relationship). Statistical analysis of the data of quantitative research is conducted by using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software version 17.0. To characterize variables, descriptive statistics and multidimensional statistical methods are employed.
